The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revoked the suspension of Telangana MLA T Raja Singh on Sunday. Singh was detained in August 2022 on charges of passing derogatory statements against Prophet Muhammad. Following Singh's response to the party's show-cause letter, the revocation was made prior to the Telangana assembly elections scheduled on November 30.

In an official notification, member secretary of the BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee, Om Pathak said, “Under suspension, the Central Disciplinary Committee of the party issued a show cause notice to you. This refers to your reply to the show cause notice. Your reply and explanation offered therein have been considered by the committee. Basis your reply, the committee has decided to revoke your suspension forthwith.”

Singh's statements came months after the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and fired another functionary for passing anti-Muslim comments. The Telangana MLA is renowned for passing statements along communal lines. He was arrested in 2017 by the Hyderabad Police for allegedly threatening to "behead" people who attempted to halt the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Following the revocation, Singh expressed gratitude to PM Modi, JP Nadda, Amit Shah, and other BJP officials in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Organization is supreme!! On canceling my suspension, first of all, Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, National President of BJP @JPNadda ji, Home Minister @AmitShah ji, Organization Secretary Shri @blsanthosh ji, State President of Telangana BJP Shri @kishanreddybjp. Yes, my heartfelt gratitude to OBC Morcha National President Shri @drlaxmanbjp ji, former state president Shri @bandisanjay_bjp ji and Shri @PMuralidharRao ji. My gratitude to the entire BJP family and the people of Goshamahal. Jai BJP, Vijay BJP!!” posted the Telangana MLA.

Singh told the reporters that he was certain that the BJP will lift his ban and allow him to run in the elections from the Goshamahal constituency. The notion of him joining the Congress party or the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was also dismissed.
