Telangana Assembly Elections: Voters with unique needs exercise their democratic right with the commencement of home voting

The initiation of the Telangana Assembly election voting process commenced with the active participation of eligible voters, specifically those aged 80 and above, as well as individuals with disabilities who exercised their right to franchise. Across the district, returning officers from different Assembly constituencies identified a total of 838 voters who were eligible for voting, having received Form-12D from the Election Commission of India.

The press release issued by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation stated that the process of home voting is similar to the regular polling booths with secret ballots. In tandem with the press note, the process of home voting is set up in a way that ensures the privacy of the voter and is fair by all means. This in turn makes sure that everyone, no matter where they vote, gets the same chance to practice their democratic rights.

Notably, in the Secunderabad constituency, a noteworthy example of inclusivity was observed as 26 voters availed themselves of the home voting facility on the designated day, underscoring the commitment to facilitating the democratic process for citizens with unique needs. People voted while party agents, polling officers, assistant polling officers, sectoral officers, and police staff were present. The whole voting process was recorded. In the other areas, home voting started on Tuesday.

As per the press release issued by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, voters with unique needs will get a second chance to vote if someone is not home during the first visit, the voting staff will make another visit, making sure everyone who can vote from home gets the chance. Assembly elections in Telangana are scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 30.
