RPF Officer Shoots Senior and Three Passengers on Jaipur-Mumbai Train

On Monday morning, four individuals were shot and killed by Chetan Singh, an officer of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The victims included an Assistant Sub-Inspector and the incident occurred aboard a train near the Palghar railway station in Maharashtra. After the shooting, Singh attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by authorities.
In an official statement to NDTV, representatives of the RPF noted, "Constable Chetan Singh fired on Party Incharge ASI Tikaram Meena from his ARM Rifle and one unknown Passenger at Coach No B 5, and then fired on two other unknown Passenger in Coach No S 6 and Pantry car attached to the train. At about 6:18, the train reached Borivali and four dead bodies were retrieved by GRP and RPF officers and staff. The passengers are yet to be identified. Constable Chetan has been detained, and his ARM recovered,"
Chetan Singh, the accused officer, is said to have used his automatic firearm. During a trip from Jaipur to Mumbai at approximately 5 a.m., he fatally shot a fellow RPF colleague, ASI Tikaram Meena, who was responsible for escort duty, in addition to three other passengers. Reports suggest that the bodies of the four victims were removed at Borivali station and transported to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali.
As per the information relayed by officials and reported by PTI, the suspect attempted to escape but was captured by the GRP at Mira Road, along with his firearm. The officials also noted that he had a short temper. After killing his superior, the accused constable moved to a different compartment and shot the other passengers.
In a statement, DRM Neeraj Verma said, "We are also examining the witnesses. We are trying to investigate from all angles."
Currently, the police are investigating the motives behind the incident. While the identities of the deceased passengers are still being confirmed, Western Railways has pledged an ex-gratia payment of Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased ASI Tika Ram.
