Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The event was preceded by the inauguration of the renovated Ayodhya railway station and the flagging off of two Amrit Bharat and six Vande Bharat trains.

The first phase of the advanced airport has been developed at a cost of more than ₹1450 crore. The terminal building, which covers an area of 6,500 square meters, has been designed to accommodate approximately one million passengers annually. The terminal's exterior reflects the architectural style of the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, while the interior features local art, paintings, and murals depicting the life of Lord Ram. Moreover, the Ayodhya airport's terminal incorporates several sustainable elements, including an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaped fountains, a water treatment plant, a sewage treatment plant, and a solar power plant, earning it a GRIHA 5-star rating.

Establishing the airport is expected to improve connectivity in the region, promoting increased tourism, business activities, and job opportunities. PM Modi's vision for Ayodhya focuses on developing modern, world-class infrastructure, improving connectivity, and enhancing civic amenities, all while preserving the city's rich history and heritage.

The inauguration event also included the laying of foundation stones for several other projects, contributing to the beautification and enhancement of civic facilities in and around the temple town.
