Only 3 out of 90 secretaries in Modi government are OBC, Rahul Gandhi supports Women Reservation Bill but demands caste census; Amit Shah says nation is run by Government and not secretaries

“I stand to support the Women's Reservation Bill”, Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi began his speech in the parliament with this on Wednesday during the special session but soon added his demand for a new caste census for better representation of OBC community while demanding reservation for OBC and Dalits.
“This government looks for distraction every time we raise the Adani issue. Similarly whenever we ask for caste census, we don’t understand why does this government runs away and looks for distraction”, said Rahul Gandhi during his 15 minute long speech that also saw uproar as BJP objected to his claims. He added that India historically has witnessed transfer of power and while this “transfer of power to the women” is welcomed, Rahul Gandhi stressed that OBC community are also important a community in India like women and they too deserve “transfer of power”.
Rahul Gandhi referred to data and claimed that there are 90 secretaries in Pm Modi government but however “only three out of ninety who run the government are from the OBC community and that shows the poor representation of the marginalised community in our institutions”. Rahul Gandhi also claimed that such skewed representation meant the OBC community had a control of only 5 percent over India’s overall budget. While he supported the women reservation bill, but his emphasis remained on OBC reservation like the other opposition parties.
His statement received sharp response from Amit Shan, Union Home Minister who slammed attempts of politicisation of an important bill. “Nation isn’t run by secretaries, rather Government runs the country. If he is interested in data, then let me tell him that 27% of our total MPs are from the OBC community and there are 29 ministers in our cabinet who are from the OBC community. It is BJP that has sent an OBC to the chair of the Prime Minister” Amit Shah in response to Rahul Gandhi.
Amit Shah also hinted at NGO culture by political parties while championing any cause and claimed that “when PM Modi does something then he does it from heart and not for any politics or political gains”.
