“Not a jumla, our guarantees are set on stone”: Mallickarjun Kharge announces the “Nari Nyay” guarantee as a part of Congress’s Election Manifesto

Congress President Mallickarjun Kharge on Wednesday announced the “Nari Nyay” guarantee as a part of the grand old party’s election manifesto, days ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Nari Nyay guarantee entails five poll promises that include the Mahalaxmi guarantee, Aadhi Aabadi Poora Haq scheme, the Shakti Ka Sammaan initiative, the Adhikar Maitri scheme, and the Savitribai Phule hostel guarantee.

"Congress is announcing 'Nari Nyay Guarantee' today. Under this, the party is going to set a new agenda for women in the country,” said Congress President Mallickarjun Kharge in a press conference. “Before this we have declared participatory justice, farmer justice and youth justice. And needless to say, our guarantees are not empty promises and statements…Our words are set in stone,” he added.

The first scheme, the Mahalaxmi guarantee promises a sum of Rs. 1 lakh per annum to one woman from every poor family. Aadhi Aabadi Poora Haq scheme entails a 50% reservation in all government jobs for women. Shakti Ka Sammaan guarantee would double the the monthly income of Anganwadi, ASHA and midday meal workers. The fourth promise, the Adhikar Maitri scheme would entail the appointment of a paralegal assistant in all panchayats to empower women, make them aware of all their rights and help them. Lastly, under the fifth promise that is the Savitribai Phule Hostel guarantee, the Government of India will build at least one hostel for working women at district headquarters. The number of these hostels will be doubled across the country.

“Congress will take its goal of 'women's justice' to every home and will provide its full rights to half of the country's population,” said senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public gathering in Maharashtra’s Dhule as a part of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Aimed towards empowering India, the Grand Old Party’s 2024 election manifesto rests on a scaffold of the five guarantees of Yuva Nyay, Bhagidari Nyay, Naari Nyay, Kisan Nyay, and the Shramik Nyay.
