"Narendra Modi, caretaker PM, soon to be ex PM": Claims Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday once again reiterated her apprehensions that BJP if voted back to power then India might head towards the path of presidential governance. Addressing a poll rally in the Kolkata Uttar parliamentary constituency, the Trinamool Congress supremo asserted that the BJP headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to alter the nature of the Indian Constitution. “This is such a long election. This has been done just to help the caretaker PM who will soon become the Ex-PM of the country,” said Banerjee.

“If Modi wins the elections this time, it will be the last time that elections will be conducted in this country. They (BJP) will make sure that elections are never conducted again. One man, one nation; one nation, one election, which clearly indicates that they are treading the path towards presidential governance,” said West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.

The Trinamool Congress supremo alleged that the BJP is trying to alter the nature of the Indian Constitution, and do away with all reservations meant for minorities under the façade of the Uniform Civil Code. “You (BJP) are changing the constitution, you are implementing CAA, you want to implement NRC, and you also want to implement Uniform Civil Code. That is why Modi Babu tried creating a wedge between the Muslims and the Tapasilis, you want to know why? If the Uniform Civil Code is enacted, then I have heard that they will do away with all reservations meant for minorities. They will only have reservations for Modi Babu and his supporters,” said Banerjee.

Trinamool Congress has fielded 5 times parliamentarian Sudip Bandyopadhyay against BJP’s Tapas Roy. The Kolkata Dakshin seat goes to polling during the 7th phase of the all-important 2024 Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place on June 1. Votes will be counted and results will be declared on June 4.
