Mihir Shah, the main suspect in the Mumbai hit-and-run case, was arrested on Tuesday after evading authorities since July 7. As per reports, Shah allegedly rammed his BMW into a scooter on Annie Besant Road, claiming the life of 45 year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband, Pradip.

The son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah from Eknath Shinde's faction, Mihir Shah faces charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash driving endangering human life. The police also implicated him under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. According to reports, after the accident, Rajesh Shah, Mihir's father, reportedly orchestrated a plan to switch places with the driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, in an attempt to shield his son from legal consequences. Rajesh Shah was briefly detained by police but was released on bail.

The sequence of events unfolded early on July 7 when the BMW, allegedly driven by Mihir Shah under the influence of alcohol, collided with the scooter. CCTV footage presented in court depicted a harrowing scene where Kaveri Nakhwa was dragged by the car for 1.5 kilometers before being run over again as the vehicle reversed. Following the incident, Mihir Shah and Bidawat fled to Kala Nagar, Bandra East, where the BMW stalled. Rajesh Shah, alerted by his son, arrived at the scene in another vehicle and reportedly advised Mihir to escape. Despite attempts to tow the BMW away, law enforcement intervened, leading to the arrest of Rajesh Shah and Bidawat.

Mumbai police launched an extensive manhunt involving multiple teams and the Crime Branch to locate Mihir Shah, who was finally arrested after evading authorities for several days. A Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against him to prevent any attempt to flee the country.

The recent incident has raised widespread concern and calls for justice, echoing similar tragic events such as the Pune hit-and-run case on May 19. A Pune teenager, allegedly intoxicated, crashed his Porsche into a motorcycle carrying two individuals, resulting in their deaths. Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old software engineers were returning after a dinner outing at a club when their bike was suddenly struck by a speeding grey Porsche. Koshta died immediately at the scene, while Awadhiya passed away from his injuries en route to the hospital.
