With more than 8.57 lakh voters ready to cast their votes, Mizoram is ready for the upcoming Assembly Elections scheduled for Tuesday. The officials have stated that stringent security measures have been deployed to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF), the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), and the Congress are key political forerunners in the upcoming election. The three political parties have fielded 40 candidates for the 40 Assembly seats, while the BJP is contesting with 23 candidates and the AAP has fielded 4. In addition, 27 candidates are contesting the polls as independents.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Madhup Vyas has stated that polling in the state will commence at 7 am and will continue until 4 pm in all the polling stations across Mizoram. He further stated that Mizoram has a reputation for conducting peaceful elections, a tradition that he wishes to uphold.

Security measures have been beefed up across the state, with about 3,000 policemen, and Central Armed Forces personnel deployed to ensure election security. A total of 174 candidates, including 18 women, are contesting in the elections.

Ahead of the all-important Assembly Elections, the inter-state boundaries with three districts of Assam, two with Manipur, and one with Tripura have also been sealed off. In addition, the 510-km-long international border with Myanmar and the 318-km boundary with Bangladesh have been sealed to avoid any untoward incidents. As per reports, the Assam Rifles have been deployed to man the Myanmar border, and the BSF will be monitoring the movement along the border shared with Bangladesh.

The Chief Electoral Officer has informed that the polling agents bearing the Electronic Voting Machines have reached their assigned polling stations. The results of the Mizoram Assembly Elections will be declared on December 3.
