A major security breach was reported during an ongoing session in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. According to reports, two men carrying colored smoke canisters jumped into the house from the visitor’s gallery chanting slogans.

An intruder donning a dark rushed inside the chamber when West Bengal BJP MP Khagen Murmu was speaking inside the House. The security breach on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks stoked fear, and a panic-ridden chaotic situation ensued. The house was immediately adjourned and the MPs vacated their seats and rushed towards the exit.

Footage from the Lok Sabha’s CCTV cameras showed two men, one who ran inside the chamber, and the other was seen hurling colored smoke bombs from the visitor’s gallery. The police have detained the intruders, who are yet to be identified for further questioning.

"One of them was attempting to run towards the Speaker's chair. They were shouting some slogans. The smoke could have been poisonous. This is a serious breach of security especially on 13th December, the day when Parliament was attacked in 2001,” said Congress MP Karti Chidambaram.

Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay questioned how two people, in possession of colored smoke bombs breached all security measures and stepped into the Parliament. "It was a terrible experience. Nobody could guess what was their target and why were they doing this. We all left the House immediately, but it was a security lapse. How could they enter with instruments releasing smoke?” questioned Sudip Bandyopadhyay.

As per reports, a visitor’s pass was recovered and the pass had been issued by BJP MP Pratap Simha's office. The police have launched an investigation into this security breach. After the Lok Sabha resumed its proceedings at 2 pm, Speaker Om Birla said, "We are investigating the matter and have asked Delhi Police to join the inquiry."

Two other people, a man and a woman have also been detained outside the Parliament, for hurling colored smoke bombs. The police suspect that both these incidents are related and are probing into the matter.
