Lie detection tests have commenced for the main suspect Sanjoy Roy and six others in connection with the rape and murder of a PGT doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The tests began on Saturday, with polygraph examinations being conducted by a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi, who have arrived in Kolkata for this purpose.

The primary suspect, Sanjay Roy, will undergo his polygraph test in prison, where he is currently detained. The other six individuals, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, four doctors who were on duty the night of the incident, and a civil volunteer, will have their tests conducted at the CFSL office.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case on August 14, following a transfer order from the Calcutta High Court. The victim’s body was found with severe injuries in a seminar hall of the hospital on August 9. Sanjay Roy was arrested the next day. According to the CBI, the incident occurred between the night of August 8 and the early morning of August 9. The victim had spent part of the night with two postgraduate trainees watching the Olympics before they left, and she went to the seminar room.

CCTV footage reveals that Roy entered the college at 1:03 am, and a Bluetooth device similar to one found at the crime scene was seen around his neck in the footage. This evidence, along with fingerprint matches from the seminar room, has linked some of the individuals under investigation to the crime. A Kolkata court on Friday remanded the prime accused to 14 days of judicial custody.

In the aftermath of the mob attack on RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Supreme Court has ordered the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to enhance security around the hospital amid the ongoing protests and heightened public concern.
