India Issues Travel Advisory Amid Iran-Israel Conflict Escalation

The Indian government on Wednesday issued a travel advisory for its citizens, urging them to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Indian nationals living in Iran should remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

The advisory was released following Iran's launch of approximately 200 missiles into Israel, heightening fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East. The MEA emphasized its close monitoring of the situation.

The Indian Embassy in Israel also cautioned citizens to limit travel within the country. It advised, "In view of the prevailing situation in the region, all Indian nationals are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to safety protocols issued by the local authorities." The embassy encouraged Indians in Israel to stay near safety shelters and provided helpline numbers for assistance.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed India's concerns regarding the escalating crisis, acknowledging Israel's right to respond but underscoring the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law. "We understand that Israel had a need to respond, but we also believe that any response by any country has to take into account international humanitarian law, that it must be careful about any damage or any implications for civilian populations," said Jaishankar.

Following Iran's missile strikes, Israel has vowed to retaliate at a time of its choosing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the missile attack as a failure for Iran, asserting that it would soon face consequences. "Iran will learn a painful lesson, just as its enemies in Gaza, Lebanon, and other places have learned," he warned. In response, Iran has threatened to launch "crushing attacks" against Israel if it retaliates.
