“I don’t expect Amit Shah to understand history; he keeps rewriting it”: Rahul Gandhi responds to the Nehru debate

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remark on Jawaharlal Nehru’s ‘blunders’ pertaining to the Kashmir issue and alleged that these are BJP’s ploys to distract the masses from the real issues such as a caste-based census. “Jawaharlal Nehru dedicated his life to India; he spent years in jail for the country. I don’t expect Amit Shah to understand history, he keeps rewriting it,” said the senior Congress leader, responding to the Nehru debate.

"This is all about distraction, the basic issue is of caste census and participation, in whose hands is the money of the country going. BJP does not want to discuss this issue, they are afraid of it and run away from it,” alleged Rahul Gandhi. The Wayanad MP stated that the basic demand is for a caste-based census and who has control over the country’s money. “Congress will fight for these issues and make sure that the people of this country are not denied of their rights,” he added.

Asked about the BJP’s appointment of an OBC Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh, Rahul Gandhi said that an OBC CM was also the helm of the Congress regime in the state. “But the real question is what percentage of them are in the structure? Even PM Modi is from the OBC category but the union government is run by 90 people and only three out of them are from the OBC category,” questioned Rahul Gandhi.

“My question is about the participation of OBCs, Dalits and tribals in the institutional system. They talk about several other things such as Jawaharlal Nehru and others to distract us from this issue of representation,” asserted Gandhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday during his address on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, were unanimously passed in the Rajya Sabha, took a dig at Congress stating that the grand old party has steered clear from the reality. “Former PM Jawaharlal Nehru was seeing Jammu and Kashmir after Independence and he left it incomplete. So many regions of the country that seemed difficult than J&K joined India but why was Article 370 brought for Kashmir…One thing is known by everyone, had there not been an untimely ceasefire, there wouldn't have been Pak-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) today,” said Amit Shah.​
