Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty has tendered her resignation to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday. However, the actor turned MP has stated that her resignation is yet to be accepted by the party Supremo.

“I have resigned, but my resignation has not been accepted. The Chief Minister is yet to accept my resignation, she said that she will take care of everything,” said Mimi. The Jadavpur MP has said that she has followed her heart and tendered her resignation to the party Supremo. “I have always maintained that I have not come here for a post. I am a party worker and will continue to work for people with or without the post or politics,” she added.

While speaking to News The Truth, Mimi said that her “dream” vision for her Jadavpur constituency has always been hindered by “barricades”, hinting at challenges from within the party. When asked whether she arrived at this decision owing to differences with the party leadership the celebrity actor confirmed of her growing difference with the “local leadership.” “I am not being let down my party, there are leaders who have always supported me, but however five fingers of a hand are not the same. It is very easy to malign a person coming from a film background. Saying that he or she does not work or does not reach out to people. However, that is not the truth always. We probably do not understand the nitty-gritties of politics, at least I do not. People came to me, reached out to me, I reached out to them, and this did not sit well with some,” said the Jadavpur MP. When asked about the future of her political endeavors following her resignation, she said that she does not wish to stay in politics.

“I do not regret joining politics. Politics has changed me; it has made me more patient than I was taken me to places where as an artist I would not have been able to reach. It has helped me make a heart to heart connect with people and I could reach out to the masses with my MPLAD funds. It changed me, but, things do not always work out,” said Mimi Chakraborty when asked if she regrets joining politics.

Speaking on the timing of her resignation months ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections the Jadavpur MP stated that the intent behind her stepping down was not to embarrass anyone, she simply followed her heart.  “If I had to embarrass anyone, I could have done it anytime. If I really wanted to embarrass my party I could have simply called for a press conference and done that anytime. However, that has never been my agenda, it will never be. My agenda was that I will never compromise with my mental peace, I will not compromise with something that does not make me happy,” said Chakraborty.

Mimi Chakraborty contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Jadavpur constituency, and defeated Anupam Hazra of BJP and Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya of CPIM.
