Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing an election rally in Telangana

Addressing an election rally in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised questions on how much the Congress has received from industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani for the elections.

“In the last five years, ever since the Rafale row was grounded, the Congress ‘shahzada’ kept talking about ‘five industrialists’. Then he kept saying ‘Ambani-Adani, Ambani-Adani, Ambani-Adani’. But ever since the elections were announced, they have stopped talking about 'Ambani-Adani’," said PM Modi in his speech. Suggesting that a deal has been struck between Ambani-Adani and the Congress, he questioned, “Shahzada should declare how much black money they have received from Ambani-Adani, have trucks full of money reached the Congress? What deal has been struck?” The Prime Minister added, “You have pointed fingers at Ambani-Adani for five years, and overnight you stopped doing that. Surely something fishy must be going on. You must have received trucks full of ‘stolen items’.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has on multiple occasions maintained that the ruling BJP government has been adopting policies to benefit industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani. In fact, on Tuesday (May 7), while addressing a public rally in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the BJP government is giving forested lands to Adani. “They call you ‘vanvasi’ (forest-dwellers), and then they give away the forested lands to Adani, In a few years, the forests will be depleted and all the land will be given to Adani, and then they will call you vanvasi and say that there are no forests left, now go and beg,” said Rahul Gandhi.

On February 6, 2023, he said the Hindenburg report on Adani should be discussed in the parliament. In August of that year, he cited the Hindenburg report and raised questions over Adani’s acquisition of NDTV. On 31 October he alleged that the government was overly protective of Gautam Adani, silencing anybody who raised questions about him using ED, CBI, snooping etc.
