Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu Denies Resignation Reports, Asserts Confidence in Completing Term

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Wednesday rubbished all reports of his resignation amidst the ongoing political tussle that the state is grappling with. Sukhu clarified that neither has he tendered in his resignation, nor has he been asked to resign by the party high command. The political upheaval in Himachal Pradesh ensued when six Congress MLAs defected and voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan, resulting in his victory over Congress's Abhishek Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday.

"There are reports in some media houses that the CM has resigned. I want to clarify that I haven't resigned. I am a warrior. We will prove our majority during the Budget Session. I also want to make it clear that the Congress government will complete its full 5-year term," asserted the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

In light of recent events in the state, the BJP is anticipated to push for a floor test, as has been proposed by the Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur. Sukhvinder Sukhu has stated that the Congress holds a majority in the assembly and proposed a trust vote to confirm this. "I am not someone who will get scared and I can say this with a guarantee that the Congress is going to win when the Budget will be presented. The BJP is spreading rumours of my resignation,” said Sukhu.

It is important to note that Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh announced his resignation from the Cabinet aggrieved by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government and stated that the Chief Minister had repeatedly subjected its MLAs to humiliation.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed senior leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and D K Shivakumar to talk to the MLAs who are discontented with Sukhu’s government, in an attempt to pacify the political crisis in Himachal Pradesh.
