A massive political row has erupted after Congress circulated an AI-generated video portraying Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a tea seller, triggering sharp condemnation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The clip, shared on social media by Congress leader Ragini Nayak, appears to show the Prime Minister carrying a kettle and glasses at what resembles a global summit.
The video immediately drew outrage from the ruling party, which described it as both an insult to the Prime Minister’s Office and an affront to the dignity of the nation. According to the BJP, the Congress has once again mocked the Prime Minister’s humble origins, reviving a long-running political fault line.
BJP leader CR Kesavan condemned the Congress leader’s act, saying it “exposes the depraved mindset of the Congress leadership”. He added, “This disgusting tweet by the Congress is a grievous insult to the 140 crore hardworking meritorious Indians and it is a direct attack on the OBC community.”
Kesavan further alleged that the Congress remains unable to accept a leader who has risen “through dedication and hard work” in contrast to what he called the “arrogant and entitled Rahul Gandhi”. He accused the party of repeatedly demeaning the Prime Minister and his family, saying, “The people of India will teach the degenerate Congress a punitive lesson.”
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla echoed the criticism, arguing that the “Naamdar Congress cannot stand a Kamdar PM from the OBC community who has come from a poor background”. “They mocked his Chaiwala background earlier too. They abused him 150 times. They abused his mother in Bihar. People will never forgive them,” he said on X.
Ragini Nayak’s post, uploaded late on Tuesday night, is expected to intensify tensions in Parliament as the Winter Session continues. Her video evokes the Prime Minister’s oft-mentioned childhood experience of assisting his father at a tea stall in Vadnagar, Gujarat.
