Calling the central agencies the ‘jawans’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday alleged that the PM and the BJP led Union Government use the central agencies to harass and intimidate Opposition leaders in states where Assembly elections are due later this year.

Addressing a public meeting in Jodhpur in poll bound Rajasthan; Kharge said, “They send ED, Income Tax, CBI for campaigning before Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes to places to give his speeches... you can see what they are doing with Congress people.”

"These people are after us, let them be. They will stay behind and we will move forward,” said Kharge drawing references to the previous Enforcement Directorate raid and summons in the poll-bund state. “They accuse us of looting the country; it is you who loot the country," added the Congress president.

Recently, the Enforcement Directorate carried out raids in locations associated with the state Congress Chief Govind Singh Dostara, both his sons were summoned by the central agency for questioning. CM Ashok Gehlot's son was also summoned by the ED. Kharge noted that these were attempts to harass the Congress leadership and an hindrance to the proper functioning of the state and demanded that the leaders be allowed to work.

Kharge launched a scathing attack at PM Modi and said that the PM only thinks of the welfare of the poor before elections. "Only talks will not do anything...There should be food, jobs and schools for learning...Nothing will happen in the country by slogans and giving good speeches,” said Mallickarjun Kharge hitting back at the PM. He further added that the PM works towards appeasing the rich, but seeks votes from the poor and that it is under Modi’s leadership that the rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer.

Exuding confidence ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly Elections, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “In these elections, the atmosphere is in our favor. The opposition has nothing to say. They are not able to make any allegations, so they are making false allegations.” Earlier today, Gehlot filed his nomination from the Congress stronghold, Sardarpura seat.

Assembly elections in Rajasthan are scheduled on November 25, and the results will be declared on December 3.
