Delhi High Court to Hear Arvind Kejriwal's Plea against ED Arrest in Excise Policy Case Tomorrow

The Delhi High Court is set to hear Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest and remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the excise policy case. Scheduled for Wednesday, the matter will be heard by a bench presided over by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.

The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal has sparked widespread outrage, leading to calls for his resignation from the BJP. However, the AAP stated that Kejriwal will continue to serve as Delhi's chief minister, even if it means operating from jail. AAP leaders have changed their social media profile pictures to show solidarity with Kejriwal, who issued a message from jail urging his supporters to remain steadfast in their commitment to society. Even while in custody, Kejriwal has been directing government affairs.

The case revolves around allegations of irregularities and money laundering associated with the formulation and execution of the 2022 Delhi excise policy, which was ultimately revoked. Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were also arrested in connection to the case.

The Aam Aadmi Party had called for a 'gherao' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence earlier on Tuesday in protest against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi Police heightened the security measures around the Prime Minister's residence. Several AAP protestors have been detained by the Delhi police.

Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, owing to his alleged involvement in the Delhi excise policy case. The AAP Chief was arrested shortly after the Delhi High Court rejected his request for interim protection against coercive measures. Kejriwal's arrest was made under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. Subsequently, a Delhi court remanded him to ED custody until March 28 in connection with the excise policy case.
