Delhi High Court Directs Sunita Kejriwal to Delete Video of Arvind Kejriwal Addressing Court

The Delhi High Court on Saturday issued orders for Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to remove a video from her social media accounts that features her husband addressing a court session. The court also directed major social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube to take down any related posts. This action came in response to a PIL filed by advocate Vaibhav Singh, alleging violations of court rules during Arvind Kejriwal's appearance in a Delhi court on March 28.

During this court appearance, Arvind Kejriwal, who was in custody following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, delivered a direct address to Special Judge Kaveri Baweja. The audio and video recordings of his speech subsequently circulated widely on social media, prompting the court's intervention. The bench, comprising Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Amit Sharma, issued notices to several parties involved, including Sunita Kejriwal and the social media companies, scheduling a further hearing on July 9. The court's directive underscores concerns over adherence to legal protocols surrounding video conferencing during judicial proceedings.

Arvind Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 had sparked significant controversy, with the Delhi High Court later upholding the agency's actions. Subsequently, Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the Supreme Court, which granted him interim bail to facilitate his participation in the Lok Sabha elections. His surrender to Tihar Jail authorities on June 2 followed, as stipulated by the Supreme Court. Throughout this period, Sunita Kejriwal, a former bureaucrat, played an active role in the AAP's electoral campaigns, although the party did not secure any seats in the national capital.​
