The Haryana Police arrested cow vigilante Monu Manesar on Tuesday, on charges related to the death of two men from Rajasthan and his alleged role in stirring unrest in Nuh in July. Monu was arrested under heavy security measures and has been presented before the court. The court has sentenced him to 14 days of judicial custody.

Nasir, 25, and Junaid, 35, who lived in a village in the Bharatpur area of Rajasthan, were allegedly kidnapped by cow vigilantes on February 15. Their charred remains were recovered from a burning automobile the following day in Loharu, Haryana's Bhiwani. Monu Manesar, a Bajrang Dal activist was the prime accused in the alleged murder of these two Muslim men hailing from Rajasthan.

The Haryana Police said that they had detained Manesar on Tuesday under bailable provisions of the Information Technology Act. On the Rajasthan Police arrested him in connection with the Rajasthan double-murder case, on Tuesday evening.

Manesar has also been accused of allegedly encouraging the unrest that erupted in Haryana's Nuh in July and resulted in at least six fatalities including two home guards and the imam of a Gurugram mosque. The violent clashes broke out on July 31, when the Vishva Hindu Parishad’s rally was halted by men at Nuh. The violence had a far-reaching impact and soon spread to neighboring regions, including Gurugram. A few days prior to the parade, Manesar posted a video on social media, stating that he would be attending it, and asked his supporters to join the rally in large numbers. This sparked a massive social media debate, which in turn culminated in the widespread Nuh unrest.
