Amidst the political turmoil in the state of Himachal Pradesh, Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh announced his resignation from the Cabinet on Wednesday. Aggrieved by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government, the son of former CM Virbhadra Singh stated that the Chief Minister had repeatedly subjected its MLAs to humiliation. Adding to the grand old party’s plight in the state, Singh said that the future of Congress in Himachal Pradesh is now in the hands of the party's high command. “I have always believed in calling a spade a spade,” said Singh hitting out at CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

"For me, the most important thing is the relationship with the people of Himachal Pradesh...But the kind of system prevailing in the government in last year, how MLAs were overlooked and attempts were made to stifle their voices - this is a result of that,” said Vikramaditya Singh in a press conference after announcing his resignation.

Vikramaditya Singh’s resignation comes at a time when the Congress is already on thin ice in the political landscape of Himachal Pradesh. Six Congress MLAs cross-voted in favor of the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday. BJP's Harsh Mahajan won, defeating the Congress's Abhishek Singhvi. "The chain of events that took place in the last 2-3 days is a matter of concern in a democracy, in Himachal Pradesh. This is concerning because the 70 lakh people of the state elected a government and after that gave the mandate to the Congress party. But such chain of events occurring after that is a matter of concern," added Singh.

Amid soaring speculations of him joining the BJP, Vikramaditya Singh stated that he will be holding discussions with his people before he charts out his future course of action. "All I would like to say is that under the current circumstances, it is not correct for me to continue as a part of the government. So, I have decided that I am resigning from the Council of Ministers. I am resigning as a minister. In the time to come, I will have video consultations with my people and then decide about the future course of action,” said the son of former CM Virbhadra Singh.
