Congress Candidate Kanhaiya Kumar Allegedly Assaulted Amid Campaign in Northeast Delhi, Accuses BJP's Manoj Tiwari of Orchestrating Attack

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, the candidate for the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, was allegedly assault while campaigning in the New Usmanpur area on Friday. The incident unfolded outside the AAP office, immediately following a party meeting between Kumar and local Councillor Chhaya Sharma. According to reports, unidentified individuals approached Kumar, garlanded him, then proceeded to throw ink at him and then made attempts to physically harm him. Sharma, who intervened, also allegedly faced verbal abuse and threats.

In her complaint, AAP councillor Chhaya Sharma provided a detailed account of the events, including the assault on Kumar, injuries sustained by several individuals, and threats directed at her and her husband. The Delhi Police have acknowledged receipt of Sharma's complaint and have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Kanhaiya Kumar accused BJP MP Manoj Tiwari of orchestrating the attack, allegedly out of “frustration” with Kumar's surging popularity. He claimed that Tiwari had resorted to sending "goons" to carry out the assault. “Manoj Tiwari, the sitting MP, is frustrated with this rising popularity, and that is why he sent 'goons' to attack me. The public will give an answer to the violence," said Kumar.

In a video which has gone viral on social media, features individuals after the incident purportedly boasting about the assault, citing Kumar's past remarks and actions as justification. They alleged that Kumar had advocated for the division of the country and disrespected the country. In addition, several social media users have also pulled up pictures of the accused sharing stage with several BJP leaders, including Manoj Tiwari.

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has been pitted against BJP's Manoj Tiwari in the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha constituency which will go to polling on May 25, during the 5th phase of the general elections, and the results will be declared on June 4.
