Commissioner of Railway Safety to probe into the North East Express derailment

The Commissioner of Railway Safety, CRS, will investigate the incident which killed at least 4 passengers and injured many in a North East Express derailment in Buxar, Bihar, on Wednesday night. The incident occurred when several coaches of the North East Express Train 12506, traveling from Delhi to Kamakhya, derailed from the tracks near Raghunathpur station.

“Commissioner of safety (Railways) to investigate the accident. It will be done by Eastern Circle, Kolkata,” said Virendra Kumar, Chief PRO of East Central Railway. An official of the Railway Board said that the accident occurred when the North East Express train, number 12506, which was traveling from Anand Vihar terminus to Kamakhya, derailed at around 09:53 pm at Raghunathpur station in Danapur Division. Several coaches that derailed include the ninth coach M-2, the 11th coach B-7, the 16th coach B-4, and the 15th coach B-5.“In this unfortunate incident, 4 passengers died, 4 passengers were seriously injured, and 26 passengers received minor injuries. The railway administration has given an ex-gratia amount of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the passengers killed in this unfortunate incident. Also, ₹50,000 each was given as ex-gratia to the passengers injured in the accident,” added the Chief PRO of East Central Railway.

Extending condolences to the bereaved families and those injured, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Deepest condolences for the irreparable loss. Will find the root cause of derailment.”

After the accident, senior railway officials arrived at the site to assess the situation. A special train from Raghunathpur was arranged for all passengers to reach their respective destinations. When the train reached Barauni station on Thursday morning, the passengers were provided with food and medical facilities.​
