CBI Team Investigating UGC-NET Paper Leak attacked by Villagers in Bihar, 4 Arrested

A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation probing the UGC-NET paper leak was attacked on Saturday in Nawada, Bihar. As per reports, the incident occurred during their visit to Kasiadeeh village, where a mob surrounded their vehicles and harassed the officers.

The incident in Nawada involved villagers mistaking the CBI team for imposters during their investigation into the UGC NET paper leak. Local police intervened after the attack, which resulted in damage to vehicles. Investigations continue with two cellphones seized for potential evidence linked to the leak.

The Bihar police promptly responded by arresting four people linked to the assault, who now face charges including disrupting government operations and assault. SP Nawada, Ambrish Rahul stated that the CBI operation was conducted covertly without prior notification to the local Rajauli Police. This lack of awareness led villagers to mistake the CBI team for imposters, sparking the confrontation.

"We sent a team and the CBI team was brought to the station. The CBI team has not arrested anyone," clarified SP Ambrish Rahul, emphasizing that while no CBI personnel sustained serious injuries, some suffered minor injuries during the incident. "We have registered a case and investigation is going on," he added.

Earlier in the week, the CBI filed an FIR against unidentified suspects in connection with the UGC-NET paper leak case. The Ministry of Education Government of India had cancelled the NET UGC exams on June 19, a day after more than 11 lakh aspirants appeared for it on Tuesday. The matter was handed over to CBI, after, as Dharmendra Pradhan, the union education minister claimed the “integrity” of the exams might have been compromised as per the inputs he had received from the Union Home Ministry.
