BRS K Kavitha writes to CMs & leaders demanding passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in parliament special session; TMC tells BJP “instead of beti bachao hoax, beti Sadan mein lao”

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha has shot off letters to political leaders, 47 parties and also Chief Ministers including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling for passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in the upcoming special session of Parliament between September 18-22. “The bill has already been passed in Rajya Sabha and now clearing the lot in Lok Sabha is very easy since BJP has a majority in Lok Sabha. With 3 mins of concentration the NDA along with INDIA can bring 33 percent women in the parliament”, said Kavita, she had even sat on a dharna in Delhi in March this year demanding passage of the bill.

The Women’s Reservation Bill seeks to reserve 33 percent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women. The Bill has remained in legislative limbo for long.

In her letter, the BRS MLC Kavitha highlighted the need for women's representation in legislative bodies, adding that “14 lakh women are already active in public life demonstrating their ability to lead and govern effectively.”

Trinamool Congress has been making a similar demand for long, suggesting that Bengal, the only state in India with a woman chief minister has a representation of over 40 women MLAs in the house of 294. “CM Mamata Banerjee has consistently fought for women and had demanded this women's reservation bill be passed in parliament. She pioneered the same in Bengal. TMC has always walked the talk but the question is does BJP want this? PM Modi said ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ but no one knows what’s the reality of the scheme. Instead of making false narratives, Beti Bachao, BJP should first say Beti ko Sadan mein lao,” said Sushmita Dev, TMC leader and former MP.

The BRS leader and daughter of Telangana CM have sent separate letters to the leaders of parties including Bharatiya Janata Party chief JP Nadda, Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge, YSRCP’s Jagan Mohan Reddy and urged for their support.

The agenda of the special parliament session hasn’t been confirmed by the Government as yet amidst the renewed discourse of “one nation, one poll” followed by the center forming a special panel to study the possibility of one nation one poll under Former President Ram Nath Kovind.
