In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party triumphed in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections, clinching 46 out of 60 seats, while the Congress faced a significant setback with only one win out of the 19 seats it contested. The BJP crossed the majority mark of 42 seats by Sunday afternoon, securing its third consecutive term in power. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein emerged victorious in their respective constituencies. Notably, the BJP had already secured 10 seats uncontested.

The BJP secured a two-thirds majority by winning 46 out of 60 seats, with an additional 10 seats won uncontested. Among the contested seats, the BJP secured 36, followed by the NPP with five seats, the NCP with three, and the People's Party of Arunachal with two. Additionally, three independent candidates won seats, while the Congress managed to secure only one. Voter turnout in Arunachal Pradesh stood at 82.95% in 2024, slightly higher than the 2019 turnout of 82.17%.

In the previous 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP had won 41 seats, with other parties like the Janata Dal (United), National People's Party (NPP), and Congress securing seats as well. However, all but one Congress MLA, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, eventually joined the BJP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude for the mandate, emphasizing the people's trust in the BJP's development-oriented politics. “Thank you Arunachal Pradesh! The people of this wonderful state have given an unequivocal mandate to the politics of development. My gratitude to them for reposing their faith in @BJP4Arunachal yet again. Our Party will keep working with even greater vigor for the state’s growth,” posted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media platform X.

Notable victories include Tesam Pongte, Wangki Lowang, and Balo Raja, among others, who won their respective seats by significant margins. Chief Minister Pema Khandu was among the candidates who won unopposed. The BJP surpassed its previous seat count and secured over 50% of the voter share.
