BJP is the 'Saudagar' of Manipur Violence

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed BJP over the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, called the party “santras ka saudagar” and “mahilao ka ijjat lootne ka saudagaar” meaning traders of violence and women modesty. Her remarks came hours after PM Modi spoke about Manipur for the first time in seventy nine days since the first incident of violence was reported at Churachandpur on May 3.

“PM didn’t speak about Manipur alone, he included other states like Bengal, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh. He clubbed other states with Manipur issue but in fact he is breaking this nation. They are the ‘saudagar’, traders of violence, trading the modesty of women”, said Mamata Banerjee

While reacting on the viral video of two Kuki women being violated, Banerjee called it a shame and a disgraceful act of sin. “Which country is this, I can’t recognize the country, where the mothers and sisters are not respected. Our heart is burning, our heart is crying. PM goes outside and boasts India as a great democracy but in turn he is working for one party rule, that’s atrocious and terrible”, said she.

Earlier in the day PM Modi condemned the horrific incident that reportedly happened on May 4, at B Phainom village in Kangpokpi district where two women were molested, groped and paraded naked. “My heart is filled with pain and anger. The incident is shameful for any civilized society. I urge all the chief ministers of all states to strengthen law and order in their states for security of women and take the strongest measures” said the PM. But his statement didn’t cut ice with the opposition that demanded that PM issues statement on the floor of the house on Manipur.

“PM silence and inaction has led Manipur into anarchy, India will not stay silent while the idea of India is being attacked in Manipur” said senior congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The first day of the monsoon session of the parliament witnessed a stormy start.

Mamata Banerjee stressed that other chief ministers could plan to visit Manipur in order to build confidence among people and restore peace and normalcy in the violence torn state.
