Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Rahul Gandhi's Rally faces roadblocks in Assam, Congress alleges that hindrances are being crafted by BJP
Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has been denied the permission to move through the thoroughfares of Guwahati as the yatra, as per the schedule, is slated to cross Assam later in the day after its stoppage at Meghalaya. Congress has alleged that the BJP government of Assam is deliberately creating hindrances in the way of their yatra.
This comes at a time when the Himanta Biswa Sharma led Assam government is at loggerheads with the Congress leadership. The grand old party has alleged that the Assam Government is deliberately creating roadblocks for Congress's Yatra in the BJP ruled state. The Assam government has stated allowing the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to pass through Guwahati on a working day woulf bring the traffic to a standstill. Citing logistical lapses, the state administration has advised the Yatra to take the National Highway 27 that acts as a beltway around the city.
On Monday Rahul Gandhi was denied the permission to enter Assam's Batadrava Satra temple, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva near Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma had asked Rahul Gandhi and his yatra entourage to not visit the temple at the time of the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony. The temple's managing body requested Gandhi to visit the temple after 3pm. Rahul Gandhi along with the other Congress leaders sat down on a dharna after meeting with the roadblock, following which, party MP Gaurav Gogoi and Batadrava MLA Sibamoni Bora went and offered prayers at the temple.
A day after, the Assam Government has denied Congress's yatra the permission to take the roads in Guwahati, and has alloted the National Highway 27 as an alternative. The Congress leaders has alleged that Himanta Biswa Sharma is deliberately creating roadblocks in the yatra's way. "Since our entry in Assam, the most corrupt CM in India has been carrying out relentless attacks on our convoys, properties and leaders using his goothe," said Congress.
With Rahul Gandhi at the helm, Congress's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra commenced on January 14 from Thoubal in Manipur, the march is expected to end in March, in Mumbai, covering the expanse from east to west across India.
