In a shocking development, Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim, who had come to Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment was found dead under mysterious circumstances, his body recovered from an upscale apartment in New Town on Wednesday. Azim, part of the ruling Awami League party, was missing for the last eight days. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed the death but also claimed the death of the MP could be a “killing as a planned murder”. The Bangladeshi authorities have confirmed to have arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged killing. The Bangladeshi visiting MP was last seen on May 13 when he went to meet his friends and later went for a medical check-up, claimed his family. May 13 evening onwards, his phone went unreachable, but family members from Dhaka claimed that mobile messages were exchanged.

Azim’s daughter had approached the friend he had last met and insisted on lodging a police complaint after she failed to connect with her father. Accordingly, a missing diary was registered with Baranagar police station by an individual named Gopal Biswas on May 18. According to the complaint letter, Azim had sent a WhatsApp message to Biswas on May 13 evening instead of coming back to his apartment, claiming that “due to some urgent work he was travelling to Delhi and that there was no need for them to call him”.

According to the missing complaint, a copy accessed by News The Truth, Gopal Biswas, his friend had received another message on May 15 reading that “I have reached Delhi, with VIPs and there is thus no need to call me”.

The case has been taken up by the premium investigation agency, the CID of West Bengal police since the body was recovered in Kolkata. Police sources claim that in the apartment from where the body was recovered, blood stains were found. That apartment was taken on rent by the MP.
