Ayodhya Shines Bright: Deepotsav spectacle sets a Guinness World Record by the lighting of 22.23 lakh earthen lamps

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, dazzled in a spectacular display of Deepotsav celebrations on Saturday, setting a new Guinness World Record on the eve of Diwali. The sacred city, situated along the Saryu River, illuminated its 51 ghats with an astounding 22.23 lakh earthen lamps at the same time.

This year's celebrations hold special significance as the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is progressing rapidly. The long-anticipated opening of the Ram Mandir is set for January 22, 2024, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to be in attendance for the inauguration.

The festivities commenced with a splendid Deepotsav procession starting from Udaya Square in Ayodhya, illustrating the life of Lord Ram, and then proceeded to Ram Katha Park. The Tourism and Culture Minister, Jaiveer Singh, officially flagged off the procession. In tandem with the extravagant festivities, the under-construction Ram Temple in Ayodhya was adorned. Additionally, devotees gathered to offer prayers to Lord Ram at the Ram Janamabhoomi in Ayodhya.

Diwali, the festival of lights is celebrate with great fervor in Ayodhya. In 2017 it saw the illumination of 51,000 diyas, it went up to 4.10 lakh diyas in 2019. 2020 saw about 6 lakh earthen lamps, and 9 lakh in 2021. In 2022 an impressive record was set by lighting more than 17 lakh diyas during Deepotsav.
