At least 60 people have lost their lives and over 140 injured in what has been deemed as Russia’s deadliest terrorist attack in the past twenty years. Gunmen, clad in military attire, stormed into a large concert hall in Moscow, unleashing gunfire and setting off explosives. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which unfolded at the Crocus City Hall on the western outskirts of the capital. As per reports, assailants hurled explosives, leading to a massive fire that engulfed the venue.

According to reports, US intelligence officials revealed that American agencies had received intelligence suggesting that the Islamic State's branch in Afghanistan was planning an assault in Moscow, information about that was shared with the Russian authorities. White House National Security Advisor John Kirby expressed condolences to the victims, describing the scenes as "horrible" and acknowledging the emotional toll on families awaiting news of their loved ones.

The incident took place during a concert featuring the renowned Russian rock band, Picnic, at the Crocus City Hall, which has a capacity of over 6,000 attendees. Reports suggest that evacuation efforts were underway, but concerns remain about individuals potentially trapped inside the burning building. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called the incident a "huge tragedy," while the Kremlin stated that President Vladimir Putin was promptly informed of the assault.

Videos circulated on social media captured the chaos and terror as extended gunfire echoed within the concert hall. Footage showed armed assailants firing at individuals at close range, while others desperately sought refuge amidst the mayhem. The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, announced the establishment of a task force to address the aftermath of the attack, with riot police units deployed to assist in the evacuation process. The devastating attack has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting heightened security measures and a unified response in the face of adversity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and conveyed India's support to the government and citizens of the Russian Federation during this period of crisis."We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. India stands in solidarity with the government and the people of the Russian Federation in this hour of grief," posted the Prime Minister on X.
