Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is all set to return to parliament as a Member of Parliament on Monday. This after Lok Sabha Secretariat reinstated his membership following the Supreme Court stay on his conviction in a criminal defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ jibe. Rahul Gandhi represents Wayanad Constituency and after the SC order on Friday, Lok Sabha issued notification on Monday stating his disqualification “ceased to operate”.

Celebrations began outside the congress head office in Delhi. The opposition alliance bloc INDIA was also seen celebrating with sweets during their regular alliance meet ahead of the parliament session.

Congress tweeted the official notification from the Lok Sabha Secretariat, calling it “Victory of love against hate”. ( add the picture of Lok Sabha notification)

This is the last week of the Monsoon Session that has witnessed massive disruptions already leading to adjournments, over the Manipur crisis. Opposition has moved no-confidence motion against the Modi government demanding PM statement on Manipur on the floor of the house. Rahul Gandhi will return to parliament amidst the ongoing showdown between BJP and opposition India. This last week is expected to be crucial with both sides having refused to relent.

Manipur has been witnessing violence for over 3 months now. Rahul Gandhi was the first opposition leader to have visited Manipur in July, followed by TMC delegation. Later United Opposition alliance bloc India, a delegation of 21 leaders, had visited the strife torn state and submitted memorandum to the President of India.

Opposition had been calling it failure of ‘double-engine’ BJP in Manipur, while BJP has called the disruptions in both the Houses of Parliament, an attempt to disrupt business and escape a discussion on the issue.
