Renowned playback singer Shreya Ghoshal on Saturday rescheduled her Kolkata concert in solidarity with the protests against the heinous rape and murder of a PGT doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The concert, initially set for September 14 at Netaji Indoor Stadium, will now take place in October.

In an official statement released on Saturday, Shreya Ghoshal expressed her deep distress over the incident. She stated, "I am deeply affected by the gruesome and heinous incident that recently took place in Kolkata. Being a woman myself, the very thought of the sheer brutality that she must have gone through is unthinkable and sends shivers down my spine,” said the singer in a statement that she released.

She continued, "With an aching heart and with deep sorrow, my promoters (Ishq FM) and I wish to reschedule our concert." The singer's statement highlighted the impact of the tragedy on her, emphasizing her solidarity with the victims and their families.

The concert, part of the "Shreya Ghoshal Live, All Hearts Tour Ishq FM Grand Concert," has been rescheduled to a new date in October 2024. "This concert was highly anticipated by all of us," Shreya noted, "but it is absolutely imperative for me to take a stand and join you all in solidarity. I sincerely pray for the respect and safety of the women in this world, not just our country."

Shreya also addressed her fans directly, asking for their understanding and patience as the new date for the concert is finalized. She assured ticket holders that their current tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled event, adding, "Please stay together with my band and myself, as we stand united against the demons of humankind."

The brutal rape and murder of an on-duty PGT doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the country. The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation from the local police following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
