5 day 'Special Session of the Parliament' announced, no word on the agenda

Taking to X, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced a ‘special session of the Parliament’ on Thursday. “Special Session of Parliament (13th Session of 17th Lok Sabha and 261st Session of Rajya Sabha) is being called from 18th to 22nd September having 5 sittings. Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to have fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament”, read the tweet.

Government reports reveal that ‘Amrit Kaal’ celebrations and India as a ‘developed nation’ could be the agenda of the upcoming session, as there are no mentions of any important bill that could be up for debate and deliberation. Moreover, it is unclear if the special session will be held in the new Parliament building.

The announcement of a ‘special session of the Parliament’ comes at a time when the Opposition Bloc INDIA is meeting in Mumbai for the third joint meeting, aimed to cement the finer details of their alliance that will face the BJP for the all important Lok Sabha elections of 2024. This 5 day session will take place after the G20 Summit in Delhi on the September 9 and 10. In addition, this session will take place after the government has informed the Supreme Court that the government is open to the idea of conducting elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
