“Woman Forced to File False Complaint,” NCW Claims Coercion in the Prajwal Revanna Case

In a startling development within the ongoing case involving Hasan MP Prajwal Revanna, accused of sexual misconduct, the National Commission of Women on Thursday stated that a woman had approached them, asserting she was coerced into filing a complaint against the Hassan MP. According to NCW, one of the female complainants in the sex video scandal involving JDS MP Prajwal Revanna claimed she was forced by individuals posing as police officers to lodge a false complaint under threat of harassment.

"One woman approached the NCW to file a complaint against three people who were dressed in civilian clothes, and she claimed that they had introduced themselves as Karnataka police. She also complained that she received many calls from unknown numbers asking her to file a complaint against the accused. It has come to the light that the woman was forced by a group of individuals to the complaint under harassment charges,” said the National Commission of Women in a statement.

In addition, the NCW refuted reports suggesting that 700 women had lodged complaints against Prajwal Revanna. The NCW clarified, "NCW would like to state that 700 women have not made any complaints to NCW regarding the Prajwal Revanna case."
Former Chief Minister and JDS state President H.D. Kumaraswamy further fueled the controversy by accusing the Special Investigation Team of pressuring victims with threats of prostitution to fabricate statements in favor of the Congress government. Kumaraswamy alleged, "The SIT officers are threatening the victims that if they don't make statements in favor of the Congress government, they will be charged with prostitution." Asserting the need for adherence to the law, Kumaraswamy emphasized, "Everyone should respect the law, and the guilty should be punished." He clarified his stance, stating, "There is no question of defending Prajwal Revanna."

Kumaraswamy's accusations prompted a rebuttal from Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who defended the efficiency of the SIT probe. Parameshwara asserted, "The SIT is conducting a probe, and the state government has taken the matter seriously."

Prajwal Revanna, currently out of the country, remains at large while the SIT, tasked with investigating his case, has already apprehended his father and JDS MLA HD Revanna on charges of sexual abuse and kidnapping.​
