A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Mira Road near Mumbai in the early hours of April 27, when a 31-year-old man allegedly stabbed two security guards after questioning them about their religion and asking them to recite the Kalma, police said. Both guards sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities have confirmed that their condition is currently stable.
The accused, identified as Jaib Zubair Ansari, was arrested within hours of the attack by the Naya Nagar Police with the help of CCTV footage. He was later produced before a Thane court, which remanded him to police custody until May 4.
According to officials, the incident took place around 4:00 a.m. in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road East, near Wockhardt Hospital, behind the Asmita Grand Mansion residential complex. The two victims, Rajkumar Mishra and Subrato Ramesh Sen, were on duty as security guards at the time.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused first approached the location asking for directions to a mosque. He left shortly after but returned minutes later and began questioning one of the guards about his religion. Moments later, he allegedly attacked the guard with a knife.
The assailant then entered the security cabin, where the second guard was present. Police said he asked the guard to recite the Kalma, and when the guard failed to do so, he allegedly stabbed him as well.
In a significant development, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken over the investigation after allegedly recovering suspicious and radical material linked to ISIS from the accused’s residence. Officials are now probing whether the attack was carried out as part of a “lone wolf” terror act.
