Trinamool Congress MP and youth wing president Saayoni Ghosh on Wednesday rejected allegations linking her to a Kolkata property allegedly associated with party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, describing the claims as “fake news” and warning of legal action against those spreading them.
The actor-turned-politician said attempts were being made to tarnish her image through what she described as baseless allegations regarding property ownership. The controversy surfaced amid an ongoing political row over properties allegedly linked to senior Trinamool Congress leaders and notices reportedly issued by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
In a post on X, Saayoni Ghosh denied claims that she jointly owns a property at Seven Tanks Road in Kolkata alongside Abhishek Banerjee. Referring to her publicly available financial records, she said her assets had already been disclosed in her election affidavit. “People simply blessed me & I am grateful. I want my voters to know my assets have been declared on my election affidavit. Check the records,” Ghosh wrote.
She also issued a warning to those allegedly circulating the claims. “For those trying to defame me without any evidence — STOP NOW!” she said. “Please know, I won’t budge an inch, I won’t let it pass. Legal action will be taken for spreading fake news. This ‘Ghosh’ won’t be bullied,” she added. Ending the post with a reference to Rabindranath Tagore, Ghosh quoted: “Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.”
Meanwhile, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) accused the BJP of orchestrating a politically motivated campaign by allegedly circulating KMC notices related to properties purportedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee and other party leaders. In an official statement, the ruling party described reports surrounding the notices as “completely false, fabricated and devoid of any credibility”. The TMC alleged that the notices had been “unofficially” leaked by the BJP to sections of the media and social media platforms to politically target senior leaders.
The controversy escalated after senior BJP leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that individuals linked to the Trinamool Congress had amassed multiple properties. Naming Abhishek Banerjee, Adhikari claimed that a company linked to him, Leaps and Bounds Private Limited, owned several properties and alleged that Banerjee and his family collectively controlled more than two dozen assets.
According to civic officials, KMC recently issued notices under Section 400(1) of the KMC Act, 1980, to properties allegedly linked to Leaps and Bounds Private Limited over claims of unauthorised construction. Officials reportedly said property owners had been asked to either remove the allegedly unauthorised portions themselves or face demolition by civic authorities after seven days. Earlier, responding to the controversy, Abhishek Banerjee struck a defiant tone while addressing party legislators. “Let them do whatever they want... Raze down my home, send notice. I won’t bow down over these things. Come what may my fight will continue against BJP,” he said.
