Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday claimed at a press conference that Maharashtra politics is heading towards another “major political earthquake.” He even revealed a specific number of MLAs from the ruling alliance who, according to him, are likely to join the BJP, triggering a stir in the state’s political circles.
Raut also hinted at when this shift might take place. Notably, he has made similar claims in the past as well, and leaders from the BJP have repeatedly responded to his statements.
“I have consistently maintained that the Nationalist Congress Party is an independent party, and Sunetra Tai Pawar is its national president. Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare are associates of Ajit Dada.
In the new structure, they may not necessarily remain associates of Sunetra Tai Pawar. Why should another party comment on the internal matters of their party? What letters they write or what posts they assign is entirely their concern,” Raut said.
He further claimed that in the future, around 25–30 MLAs from the NCP could merge with the BJP. “I am not revealing at this stage who will lead this move,” he added. Raut also alleged that a similar number of MLAs, about 25 from the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena are likely to join the BJP. “These MLAs are in a mindset to merge with the BJP, but have been asked to wait and watch for now,” he said.
Raut also said that both Sunetra Pawar’s faction and Eknath Shinde’s faction would eventually have to merge with the BJP, a claim that has created significant political buzz.
At the same press conference, he also expressed displeasure over the postponement of the Supreme Court hearing regarding the Shiv Sena party name and symbol dispute. He criticized the judicial process and also targeted the Election Commission. Raut reiterated his claim that MLAs from both the Shinde camp and the NCP would eventually join the BJP.
