A hidden-camera sting operation video featuring suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has erupted into a major political storm in West Bengal, with the ruling party releasing and widely circulating it to accuse the BJP of orchestrating a calculated conspiracy to divide the state’s minority community ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The video, which surfaced today and has rapidly gone viral after being uploaded on YouTube (including channels such as one associated with Masadur Rahman), allegedly captures Kabir admitting that his high-profile push to reconstruct a replica of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district was never a genuine community initiative. Instead, he is heard claiming it was a “political arithmetic” designed to polarise and “fool” Bengal’s Muslims, backed by massive BJP funding and top leadership.
According to the roughly 19-minute recording, Kabir allegedly states that the BJP provided him with around ₹1,000 crore for the operation. He names senior BJP figures, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and even references involvement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The goal, he purportedly explains, was to create communal polarisation that would benefit the BJP electorally by splitting the minority vote and weakening the TMC’s traditional support base.
“Will not let Mamata Banerjee come to power. There are also Hindus supporting Mamata Banerjee. I have no feelings for Babar but I am stoking the Babri masjid issue to fool the muslims… they are innocent people. If I can polarise then the Hindus will go to BJP and then BJP can cross 110-120 seats. I will not become the Chief Minister but if I can manage to win 80 seats then they can form government and …can also become the deputy CM. If there’s hung assembly then will definitely support BJP….” Humayun Kabir could be heard in the purported sting operation video.
The timing of the alleged sting is particularly striking. The video is said to have been shot on December 19, 2025 - just days after Kabir laid the foundation stone for the controversial “Babri Masjid” replica project in Beldanga, Murshidabad, on December 6, 2025. That date marked the 33rd anniversary of the original Babri Masjid’s demolition in Ayodhya in 1992, a move that had already drawn sharp criticism and led to his suspension from the TMC on December 4. Kabir later floated his own outfit, the Janata Unnayan Party, on December 22, 2025, which is just three days after this purported video was shot.
In the clip, Kabir is reportedly seen discussing how the project involved collecting huge donations - including cash trunks and online QR contributions and how it was part of a larger script scripted with BJP support to engineer a communal narrative in Bengal.
The Trinamool Congress has seized on the footage with full force. Senior TMC leaders, including the party’s official X handle, released portions of the video while lashing out at the BJP, terming it “explosive” proof of a “dirty conspiracy” against Bengal. TMC spokespersons described it as a “BJP game plan” to destabilise the state by using a suspended MLA as a proxy to mislead the Muslim community and create vote-bank divisions. “This exposes how the BJP operates through paid agents and manufactured polarisation,” one leader said in a press interaction today.
“This is their game plan. This scoundrel has sold the innocence of Muslim, their dignity to BJP for money. Muslims should never trust him. This is their ploy to divide the Muslims and create unrest in bengal”, said Firhad Hakim, TMC leader and a prominent Muslim minister.
Humayun Kabir, who has since distanced himself from the TMC and positioned himself as an independent voice aiming to contest over 135 seats in 2026, has vehemently denied the allegations. He has dismissed the video as fake, doctored, or AI-generated, claiming it is a politically motivated fabrication aimed at tarnishing his image. He has claimed to move defamation cases against TMC and its senior leadership.
Important note: The authenticity of the sting operation video cannot be independently verified by News The Truth or any neutral third party at this stage. Such hidden-camera recordings have previously sparked intense debate in Indian politics over editing, context, and potential manipulation.
The development has triggered a fresh wave of accusations and counter-accusations across West Bengal’s already charged political landscape. With the state heading into crucial elections in next two weeks, the viral YouTube video has reignited debates over communal politics, money trails in religious projects, and alleged “B-Team” operations. Social media platforms, particularly X, are flooded with clips from the sting, with both TMC and BJP supporters trading sharp barbs. Whether the video holds up under scrutiny or fades as another contested “sting” remains to be seen, but for now, it has handed the TMC a powerful narrative tool against its principal rival.
