RN Ravi was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of West Bengal at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan on Thursday morning. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, and senior CPIM leader Biman Bose were also present at the ceremony. However, no leaders from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attended the event.
Several senior bureaucrats and police officials were in attendance as well, including Chief Secretary Nandini Chakravorty.
Ravi’s appointment follows the resignation of his predecessor, C V Ananda Bose, on March 5. A former Indian Police Service officer, Ravi previously served as the governor of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu.
