A Bengali actor Arunoday Banerjee, commonly known as Rahul amid film fraternity, passed away in an unfortunate accident after drowning during a shoot at Digha. He was declared dead after he was brought to Digha General Hospital on Sunday evening by his crew.
In a statement, Digha police informed that the production team had neither informed authorities nor obtained permission for filming.
“Yesterday around 5:30 PM , when Rahul Arunodoy Banarjee and Sweta Mishra were dancing in the water at knee level for shooting of a serial, suddenly both of them fell into a ditch and their team immediately took them to Digha Hospital. However, the male actor could not be saved.
The team neither gave any intimation nor obtained any permission for shooting. Talsari Police is coordinating with Digha Police for further legal action,” a statement from the office of SP Balasore said.
According to police sources, information was received by the Talsari IIC from his counterpart in Digha regarding the death of the actor, whose body was kept at Digha Medical facility. A joint verification conducted by Talsari and Digha Police established the sequence of events leading to the incident.
Police said that the incident occurred when actor Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee and co-actor Sweta Mishra were shooting for a serial and dancing in knee-deep seawater. During the shoot, both actors reportedly slipped into a ditch.
Members of the production team immediately rescued them and rushed them to Digha Hospital. However, doctors declared Banerjee dead on arrival.
‘Unauthorised shooting’
Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting was being conducted without prior intimation to the local administration or police, and no official permission had been obtained for the activity.
Talsari Police is currently coordinating with Digha Police to initiate further legal action in connection with the incident. Investigations are underway to determine lapses and fix responsibility.
