Shivsena UBT MP Sanjay Raut demands resignation of State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar, after a video surfaced showing a ritual (washing the feet) of the Fake Baba, in Nashik.
During a Press Conference in Delhi, Raut has strongly criticised the entire episode and urged Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene in the matter.
Raut alleged that Rupali Chakankar is lying and should not continue as the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission. He said that if she has even a shred of morality, she should step down.
He questioned how this issue could be termed as a matter of personal life.
Raut claimed that a woman, unable to bear the ordeal, had filed a complaint, and alleged that Chakankar tried to pressure people into not registering the complaint.
Several allegations have been made against Rupali Chakankar, and she remains a controversial figure, who is protecting her and why, Raut Said.
He further alleged that the Nashik Fake Baba had assaulted several women, many of them Marathi. “The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission is seen performing rituals for such a godman, the Home Minister remains silent.” Raut said.
Raut demanded the resignation of Chakankar on moral grounds.
He also pointed out that Maharashtra has an anti-superstition law in place, yet people holding high positions in the government including the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, ministers, and MLAs are seen engaging in such practices.
Raut demanded that Devendra Fadnavis should take action under the anti-superstition law against all those whose photos with the godman have surfaced.
“Maharashtra has historically led the fight against superstition, and if ministers themselves indulge in such acts to remain in power, the Home Department should dismiss them.” He added.
