In the latest development in the sensational “Watermelon Case,” a preliminary post-mortem report has confirmed that the death of four members of the Dokadia family was caused by suspected food poisoning.
The incident, which shocked the nation, occurred last week after the family reportedly consumed mutton pulao followed by watermelon at their residence.
According to the Mumbai Police, no foul play has been established so far in the initial investigation.
All food samples, including mutton pulao and watermelon, have been sent to the Kalina forensic laboratory, with authorities requesting a fast-track analysis to determine the exact cause.
Police are also questioning a fruit seller, Imran, who allegedly sold the watermelon to Abdulla Dokadia. He has been running his business in the Null Bazar area of Mumbai for several years.
Dokadia, a mobile shop owner from Andheri, had recorded his statement before his condition worsened.
He described a family dinner on Saturday night, followed by the consumption of watermelon later. By Sunday morning, four family members developed symptoms such as vomiting and uneasiness.
Despite initial medical attention, all four succumbed within hours, with Dokadia passing away around 10:30 PM.
