The turmoil in Manipur is on for close to two months now and the violence hasn't abated as yet. The conflict and clashes have claimed several lives already, and paralysed normal life.
As NTT arrived in Imphal, the team was greeted by the sounds of sirens and the silence of the people, until they met with a group of protesters who burnt effigies in protest against the inability of the system to control the situation and restore normalcy.
One confirmed dead in Imphal West today, and at least two others injured. Firing reported in the Kangpokpi region. There is disquiet amongst the people. Locals question why it is taking so long to control the situation and curb the violence in Manipur. People are upset over the silence of PM Modi and what they claim assurances given by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah failing to address the tension.
In the evening as the locals assembled with the dead bodies in Imphal, fresh tensions erupted as people clashed with the forces.
