Tensions escalated in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar after BJP nominee Rathindra Nath Bose alleged that his convoy was attacked during an election campaign. The incident reportedly took place while he was returning from a programme, triggering fresh political sparring between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
According to the BJP leader, the convoy was targeted with stones, bricks and sticks, damaging vehicles and injuring at least one party worker. Bose described the incident as a “planned attack” and accused TMC supporters of attempting to intimidate the opposition ahead of the Assembly elections.
Police reached the spot following the incident and have begun an inquiry into the allegations.
However, the Trinamool Congress has strongly denied any role in the attack. Party leaders claimed the clash stemmed from local public anger, possibly linked to voter list issues, and dismissed the BJP’s allegations as politically motivated.
