Comedian Kunal Kamra has sharply criticised YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, accusing him of continuing to capitalise on controversy linked to his appearance on the show India's Got Latent.
The exchange unfolded on X after Allahbadia shared a reflective post about how a single incident had disrupted his decade-long career. In the post, he also cited a couplet by Sant Kabir, alluding to patience and rebuilding in the aftermath of setbacks. Kamra responded by shifting the focus to the wider fallout faced by the comedy community. He argued that the consequences extended far beyond Allahbadia himself, affecting several performers associated with the show.
According to Kamra, more than 30 artists, including him, were called in by authorities due to their links with the programme. He further alleged that the controversy led to cancelled performances, venues withdrawing support, and long-term professional setbacks for stand-up comedians. “The whole comedy fraternity took a hit because of how stupid you're. Shows were canceled, Venues pulled out, Judgements made, the pathetic shadow of your stupidity still continues to make lives of funny comedians difficult. You didn't even care to understand that side,” Kamra said.
Escalating his criticism, Kamra accused Allahbadia of projecting a misleading public image and avoiding accountability. “Stop pretending to be the nice guy you're not. Take your checks, lower your gaze & be very ashamed. You're a contraceptive for creativity; stop milking this & go back to what you do best, which is being a hurdle for upward social change while fraudcasting & clout chasing,” he wrote.
The controversy traces back to a February 2025 episode of India’s Got Latent, which featured Allahbadia alongside content creators Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija. During the episode, Allahbadia posed an explicit “would you rather” question to a contestant involving their parents. Although the remark drew laughter from the panel at the time, clips from the segment soon circulated widely online, prompting criticism for being “perverted” and “obscene”.
The backlash quickly intensified, resulting in multiple FIRs being registered across different states. Allahbadia later issued a public apology, acknowledging a “lapse in judgment” and stating that “comedy is not my forte.” The issue also reached Parliament, where lawmakers raised concerns about the need for tighter regulation of online content. In the wake of the controversy, all episodes of the show were subsequently removed from the streaming platform.
