Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday released the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election manifesto for West Bengal, placing a strong emphasis on the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within six months if the party forms the government.
Unveiling the “Sankalp Patra” at an event in Kolkata, Shah announced a key welfare measure—a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 for women—positioning it as part of a broader push to address economic and social concerns across the state.
He said the manifesto is designed to reach “every section” of society and aims to rebuild public trust. Taking aim at the incumbent administration led by Mamata Banerjee, Shah described the past 15 years as a “period of darkness,” alleging that fear and insecurity have become widespread among citizens.
“Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party has just released its manifesto for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This manifesto provides a path to overcome the deep despair prevailing across all sections of Bengal. It offers new direction for farmers facing uncertainty due to crop losses, for unemployed youth, and for women living in fear. It also gives renewed hope and confidence to every citizen concerned about Bengal’s culture and its pride,” Shah said during the launch.
The state is set to vote in two phases, April 23 and 29, with the manifesto positioning governance reform and legal uniformity—through the proposed UCC—as central to the party’s electoral pitch.
Key Promises in BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ for Bengal Polls:
