BJP councillor’s son has been arrested on Saturday in sex scandal for abusing over 100 victims, with the Congress alleging that the scale of the crime is far bigger than initially reported and could involve minors across several parts of Goa.
A major political controversy has broken out in Goa following the arrest of a 20-year-old man, the son of a BJP councillor, in an alleged sex abuse case that is now believed to involve over 100 victims.
The accused, Soham Naik, son of Curchorem Municipal Council councillor Sushant Naik, was arrested on March 21 after multiple complaints accused him of sexually exploiting minor girls. He has been booked under stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Goa Congress chief Amit Patkar has alleged that the number of victims in the case could exceed 100, claiming the abuse may have continued for nearly three years. He also suggested that victims could be spread across multiple areas, including Curchorem, Margao, Vasco da Gama and Ponda.
According to the allegations, the accused lured minor girls, sexually assaulted them, recorded explicit videos, and used those recordings to blackmail victims into silence.
While initial reports suggested a smaller number of victims, the Opposition claims many more survivors have not yet come forward due to fear, stigma and possible pressure. The Congress has also questioned the delay in action, alleging that the police moved only after public outrage intensified.
The investigation has now been transferred to the Crime Branch, with officials urging more victims to come forward. Authorities maintain that a thorough probe is underway and that the exact scale of the case will become clear as more evidence emerges.
