Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday welcomed newly appointed Governor R.N. Navi, saying that the people of the state appreciate those who value Bengal and its culture. Speaking during her meeting with the Governor at Lok Bhavan shortly after he took oath as the Governor of West Bengal earlier in the day, Banerjee highlighted the state’s cultural richness and warmth. “You will see that Bengal’s culture is truly extraordinary,” the Chief Minister said, adding, “I believe you will like West Bengal.” She further remarked, “The people of Bengal love those who love Bengal,” while greeting the new Governor and expressing hope that he would enjoy his tenure in the state.
R.N. Navi was sworn in as the Governor of West Bengal earlier on Thursday at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata. The oath of office and secrecy was administered in the presence of senior government officials, political leaders and dignitaries. With the oath-taking, Navi formally assumed charge as the constitutional head of the state.
Following the ceremony, the Governor met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Lok Bhavan.
During the meeting, Banerjee welcomed him to the state and spoke about Bengal’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and the warmth of its people. She said that Bengal has always embraced those who respect its language, culture and values.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the new Governor would have a positive experience during his tenure and would work in coordination with the state government for the development and welfare of the people of West Bengal.
The meeting was seen as a customary courtesy interaction between the state government and the newly sworn-in Governor, marking the beginning of his tenure in the state.
